Ben was born in Virginia but seems to have made the trek westward and into canada with his brothers Abe, John and Calahan, two of which eventually changed their family names to Bennett.
His brothers supposedly settled in the prairie provinces.
More Information on Ben, Mary and children:
In 1878 when their son, John Calvin, was born, Ben and Mary were living in Whitesburg, Kentucky. In the late 1890s, they were living in North Dakota and by then had two other sons, George and Fred. After Mary died, sometime around 1905, Ben emigrated to Canada where he homesteaded in southern Saskatchewan with his son George.
Children of BEN NOWLAN and MARY McCARTHY:
John Calvin (1878-1948) m. Lydia Ann Flanary (1897-1976), a widow, and they settled in Nipwin, SK, where John died in 1948.
George settled with his father in Tugaske, SK.
Fred was adopted by a Jackson family, possibly in North Dakota.
