PLAQUE: Templepeter Church and Cemetery
What remains of this ancient church has few
dateable features, while the dated headstones
are a reminder that the cemetery is the resting
place of people born in the 17th century. During
the half century since the last burial took place
here in 1949 this treasure of the past had
become completely obscured by vegetation.
In 1990 a group of local people set themselves
the task of transforming and preserving Templepeter.
This plaque was erected to the memory of
JOHN ESMONDE 1920-1994
who inspired and led this project. ( click to view image )
MEMORIAL: Erected in Jubilee Year 2000
In memory of the Famine victims of the Great
Irish Famine, especially the Murphy family who
rest in Templepeter cemetery. May their memory
inspire us to solidarity with present day
victims of injustice throughout the world.
