In the interest of limiting the number of famous Nolans identified in the book, I will limit my selection to famous Nolans before the 1920s e,g. Amnesty John Nolan of the Fenian Brotherhood or James Nowlan of the Gaelic Athletic. I also plan to seek out Nolans who became famous in their line of work: Charles-Henri Nolan of Irish Brigade descent, who financed a large part of the French fur trade in Canada before the fall of New France; Captain Thomas Nowlan who ran a successful whaling oil business in the late 1700s; a Michael Nowlan of Dublin, goldsmith in the late 1700s; John Nowland of London, soapmaker in the late 1700s; a Bishop Edward Nolan of Carlow who promoted goodwill between Catholics and Protestants in the early 1800s; Thomas Nowlan from the Ballon area who became chief gardener for the Kew Gardens in London in the mid 1800, etc, I am still in discovery mode but, as I discover more famous Nolans I will publish my findings in the “Research Posts” repository at this website.
